RaceQuip does not offer seat belt rewebbing services.
SFI rated auto racing seat belts expire after two years of use. This is due to the degradation of the webbing (nylon or polyester) from exposure to UV rays. Remember, UV rays are also emitted by incandescent, LED, and sodium vapor bulbs – so the degradation occurs even when your car is in your shop and not in direct sunlight.
Here is some data on the science behind the two year expiration from the SFI Foundation website:
With this kind of rapid deterioration, it is obvious why replacing the webbing every two years is essential to driver safety. Old and weakened belts could easily snap under the loads imposed upon them in an accident situation. Failure to properly restrain the driver in a crash would have devastating consequences.
In order to “reweb” or “recertify” expired belts, the manufacturer must cut away all the existing webbing, clean and inspect the hardware, and then reassemble using all new nylon or polyester webbing.
RaceQuip does not offer rewebbing services due to the fact that we are not comfortable re-using a customer’s hardware without knowing the history, as well as the fact that our shop labor rate plus shipping to an from us now equasls the cost of a new set of belts.
